He applies<\/span> psychotherapy across diverse contexts with a focal interest in anxiety disorders, relationship issues, and the positive and negative uses of technology in everyday life. Ben provides telepsychology services to reach people in distant areas. In the academic setting, he lectures and presents across a range of issues: psychotherapy models, case formulation, evidence-based care, qualitative research methods, and group therapy.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #666666;\">Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor of Science (Psychology) with first class Honours<\/li>\n<li>Master of Psychology (Counselling Psychology)<\/li>\n<li>PhD (Psychology)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Psychotherapy with Individuals, Couples, Families, and Groups<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ben has worked as a counsellor and later as a psychologist for over 20 years. He has worked with individuals, couples and groups. Since 2007 Ben has spent the majority of his time in private psychological consulting at <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/117793690103390698400\/about?gl=au&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brockman House<\/a> (2007-2008), the <a title=\"visit the Health@520 website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.health520.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Health@520<\/a> complex\u00a0(2009-2013), at &#8216;Applecross Clinic&#8217; (2013-2017), and now at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.likeminds.clinic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Likeminds Clinic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><i>Mental Health Advocacy<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"visit the Facebook Group website\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/betteraccess\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-70\" src=\"https:\/\/drben.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Alliance-300x131.png\" alt=\"Alliance\" width=\"346\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/drben.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Alliance-300x131.png 300w, https:\/\/drben.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Alliance-500x220.png 500w, https:\/\/drben.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Alliance.png 502w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/><\/a>Across the last decade Ben has been actively engaged in campaigning for mental health care policy reform. He calls for increased support for psychological care over radio, the newspapers, and publications within the profession. Between 2008 and 2011 Dr Ben Mullings ran a professional discussion forum (&#8216;<em>Conscience<\/em>&#8216;) for psychologists to reflect about critical issues within the profession.<\/p>\n<p>From 2011 he has coordinated the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drben.com.au\/?cat=59\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Alliance for Better Access<\/em><\/a> campaign calling for reforms to the Medicare system. The group is primarily comprised of mental health care consumers and concerned members of the general public, however, it is joined by all of the mental health professions including psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, general practitioners, occupational therapists and mental health nurses. \u00a0A petition run by the\u00a0<em>Alliance for Better Access <\/em><a title=\"visit the petition website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.change.org\/en-AU\/petitions\/australia-needs-better-access-to-psychological-treatment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">at Change.org<\/a> had over 15,000 supporters and was lodged in the federal senate. As an advocate, Dr Ben Mullings has met with state and federal politicians, presented at a senate inquiry in Canberra, and has tabled formal submissions to Government. Between 2015 and 2020, Ben co-founded the <a href=\"https:\/\/drben.com.au\/?cat=71\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Australian Mental Health Party<\/em><\/a> to provide a humanistic political platform for policies which optimise mental health and well-being.<\/p>\n<p><em>Lecturing and Academia<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"read some of his published work\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20170127225401\/http:\/\/counsellingpsychologists.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/public\/2009\/CounsellingPsychologyInAustralia.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-73\" src=\"https:\/\/drben.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/AJCP.jpg\" alt=\"AJCP\" width=\"100\" height=\"139\" \/><\/a> In recent years, he has shared this time working in academia.\u00a0His written work has been published in core textbooks, in journals, and continues to be used in the training of university students studying psychology and counselling from undergrad to postgraduate levels.
